Sturgis traffic signal change

A three-way traffic signal on South Nottawa Street at Wenzel Street will become a blinking light for the next 90 days, in anticipation of its potential removal.
Sturgis city commissioners have approved a temporary control order that will change the stoplight to a flashing yellow signal for two-way traffic on South Nottawa Street and a red flashing light for Wenzel Street traffic.
Barry Cox, city engineer, said the closure of Holy Angels School initially prompted consideration of removing the light. According to Cox, the location does not meet state standards to justify a traffic signal.
Eventual removal is supported by Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Head Start program that operates in the church’s former school building, city officials said.
