Lloyd Avery, 86

Lloyd G. Avery, age 86, of Mendon, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Mendon on Feb. 4, 1929 the son of the late George C. and Alida (Wartz) Avery and was a lifetime resident of Mendon. He was married to Barbara Ann Male on Aug. 30, 1956. Barbara died in 2009.
Lloyd worked in commercial construction for many years with Whitaker, Miller-Davis, and Rieth-Riley Construction Companies, while also working for Henry McClain Excavating. Lloyd also operated his own wrecker service, and a tree removal and trimming business. He worked briefly for Bud Marantette Farms and Spealman Home Builders, along with the Department of Public Works for the Village of Mendon. He was a long-time volunteer for the Mendon Fire Department. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing and tinkering on things in his garage. Following retirement, he and his wife constructed many lawn decorations sold at local craft shows.
Lloyd is survived by four children, Gordon (Debra) Webb of Springport, Marvin (Joy) Avery of Lebanon, OH, Alan “Hoss” (Marlene) Avery of Mendon, and Marjorie Avery of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Ryan Avery, Ashley (Curt Nelson) Avery, Garret Avery, and Kiley (Mike) Harner; two great-grandchildren, Brett Nelson and Shane Harner. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Earl Avery.
Cremation has been conducted. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday July 30, 2015 at the Mendon United Methodist Church. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with family friend, Rev. Clint Zehr officiating.
