Two arrested following home invasion

A sharp-eyed, off-duty deputy from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrest of two of three suspects involved in a home-invasion incident over the weekend.
Sheriff Joe Underwood said the arrests took place shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 28000 block of Coulter Road.
Underwood said an off-duty reserve deputy observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the yard of a residence, and that the deputy knew that the homeowners were out of town.
When the deputy confronted the three suspects, they fled from the scene in their vehicle.  The deputy followed the vehicle until it crashed on M-60 near Oak Grove in Jefferson Township.
After the vehicle crashed, the three suspects fled on foot into a wooded area behind a residence.
With the assistance of nearby agencies, the sheriff’s office was able to locate and arrest two of the three suspects.
The two men, whose names will be withheld pending formal arraignment, are 21 and 17 years of age.
