Barbara Gearhart, 86

Barbara I. Gearhart, 86, of Three Rivers, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 22, 2015 at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers.

She was born Dec. 4, 1928 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Kalmon and Elsie (Bowman) Toth.

Being an Air Force wife Barbara lived all over the United States and Canada, settling in Three Rivers.

In November 1951 she married United States Air Force Sgt. Fred Jorn Jr. in Chicago, Ill. This marriage ended in 1968. In January of 1980 she married Dale Gearhart in Three Rivers.

She retired from the St. Joseph County Courthouse following several years of dedicated employment as a secretary. She also held a variety of jobs while traveling.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Three Rivers.

Barbara enjoyed trips with family to Europe, her pets and many friends. Following her retirement she became interested in crafts and loved gardening and decorating.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Dale; one son, Frederick A. (Lou Ann) Jorn, III of Wellington, Fla.; granddaughter, Tiffany; grandson, Eric; two step-sons, Steve Gearhart and Michael Gearhart; two brothers, Paul Toth of Alaska and Carl Toth of Kalamazoo; one sister, Jean Toth of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no services.

The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial in Mrs. Gearhart’s memory consider the charity of one’s choice.
