Nearly two dozen local officials, including State Rep. Aaron Miller and State Sen. John Proos, took part Tuesday in a tour of the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority headquarters as well as a ride-along.
Officials from the CTA said the first-of-its-kind event was staged to help promote the services it offers countywide.
The group, which featured representation from Sturgis police, Michigan State Police, Thurston Woods, the city of Sturgis, St. Joseph County Department of Human Services and Michigan Works!, included stops at the John Barry House in Constantine, Wahbememe Park in White Pigeon and sites in Sturgis.
Joe Cooper, operations manager of the Three Rivers-based agency, said the CTA is working hard to maintain its visibility and promote itself as a viable option for people who have transportation needs.
Tuesday’s tour and ride-along, and a booth at next month’s St. Joseph County Grange Fair are examples of the public outreach the agency is employing, Cooper said.
