Mr. Donald (Don) L. Casterline — loving husband, father and grandfather passed on to be with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born on February 4, 1923 in Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by his loving wife Beverly of 69 years – the couple knew each other for 76 years; two daughters, Carolyn Kearns and Linda Casterline; two sons, Jim (Janice) and David (Valerie) Casterline; five grandchildren, Jeff (Caryn), Jason (Cary), Jamie (fiancé Kristen), Matt (Abby) and Chris Casterline (Alexis); four great-grandchildren: Riley, Harrison, Lucas and Gavin Casterline; sister-in-law Caryl Hicks; cousins Ken and Doug (Jane) Goodrich; and several nieces and nephews. Don was a decorated World War II Veteran Army Officer (Second Lieutenant) — having served in seven war campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day. He was very humble, yet extremely proud of his sacrifices and contributions to his country. He was an executive with Ford Motor Company after his graduation from Tri-State University, earning a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also served as fingerprint expert for the Michigan State Police prior to his position with Ford Motor. He later owned and operated a Ford dealership and real estate business. He then became the minister of the Omard United Methodist Church where he served for seven years. Don was a graduate of Lansing Central High School, earning All-State honors as point guard on the basketball team as a three year starter. He received basketball scholarship offers at D1 schools Central Michigan; Western Michigan University; and Eastern Michigan University – but he made a choice to faithfully serve his country. He was a scratch golfer and crowned twice as the Lansing City Golf Champion. Raised in Lansing, Don resided in Lexington, Michigan for 48 years. He was engaged in numerous community activities and had a strong passion for helping others in need. He leaves behind a great legacy for his family and those that knew him well.
