It’s election day and voters in three St. Joseph County communities will head to the polls.
In Three Rivers, a newcomer is expected to join three incumbents to the municipality’s seven-member city commission.
All four positions are uncontested, meaning 16-year mayor Tom Lowry will oversee the commission for at least two more years. Joining him will be Jared Hoffmaster and Diane Clay.
Janell Hart is seeking the at-large post currently held by Linda Gearhart, who chose to not seek re-election after fulfilling a two-year term.
The 59-year-old Lowry owns Lowry’s Books and More in Three Rivers and Sturgis. Hoffmaster, 33, is assistant vice-president and inventory officer at Century Bank and Trust in Three Rivers. He is completing his second two-year term as First District commissioner. Clay, 58, represents the city’s Third District. Hart, who turned 60 last week, is a retired legal secretary.
Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and both precincts in the city of Three Rivers vote at Riverside Church.
