Cat shot by arrow in Calhoun County

A cat survived being shot with a crossbow and authorities are trying to find the person responsible.

Laurie Sullivan tells the Battle Creek Enquirer she found the cat in Battle Creek with a crossbow arrow, known as a bolt, stuck through his neck. Sullivan, a former Battle Creek commissioner, says she was “mortified.”

Benjamin Huelsbergen at Turner Veterinary Clinic removed it Tuesday and says it didn’t damage muscle or bone. Sullivan says the cat was “purring and trusting and loving 24 hours later.”

Animal Control Officer Mike Ehart says the person who shot the cat could face an animal cruelty charge.

Last month, a reward was offered for information after a wounded pet cat was found with a crossbow arrow through his chest in Eaton County.
