Constantine updated on sewage-treatment operations

Members of the Constantine Village Council were given an update earlier this month regarding negotiations with the city of Three Rivers about sewage-treatment operations.
Attorney Scott Smith led the update but details were not disclosed when the board reconvened following a 60-minute closed-session discussion.
Constantine pumps its sewage to the Three Rivers wastewater treatment plant in accordance to a contract that expires in less than two years.
Three Rivers has levied several increases on the village and in May, village manager Mark Honeysett said the municipality’s sewer fund was more than $138,000 in the red.
Gary Mathers, chairman of the sewer ad hoc committee, said negotiations had been slow and not very productive.
The council eventually voted to enlist Fleis & VandenBrink, and file an application with the USDA-Rural Development to potentially fund a new wastewater treatment plant.
