Mendon Community Schools Board of Education members gave interim superintendent Roger Rathburn a vote of confidence Monday, as the seven-member panel agreed to extend Rathburn’s contract through the 2016-17 academic year.
Rathburn joined the district after board members agreed last spring to not continue to participate with Centreville Public Schools in a shared-superintendent agreement. Rathburn said he’ll confirm his decision to accept the additional year only after a poll is taken of the district’s 80-member staff to find out whether Mendon’s school employees want him back.
Details of Rathburn’s contract will remain unchanged. He is allotted 133 work days during the academic year and is paid about $58,000 a year. The district does not provide health coverage, sick days or vacation time.
Board president Regina Schinker called Rathburn “a bargain.”
