Boil water order remains in White Pigeon

Despite the hope for a clean reading, White Pigeon village officials on Wednesday said a boil-water notice must remain in effect village-wide.
Municipal officials had notified residents Jan. 7 that the presence of coliform bacteria had been detected in the water supply. Since then, they have been urging residents to boil water before use or use bottled water.
White Pigeon Department of Public Works water operator Earl Baldwin had been hoping for a second consecutive negative test for coliform bacteria this week. If the water system had tested negatively two days in a row, the boil-water advisory would have been lifted, however the latest test came back positive for coliform bacteria.
That means the system will have to be chlorinated again for a duration to be determined by the DEQ.
Residents should continue boiling their water or using bottled water until notified otherwise.
