Exotic animals removed from home

Caretakers from Binder Park Zoo and Black Pine Animal Sanctuary worked several hours Friday to remove exotic animals from a Mottville Township residence.
Meanwhile, Jessica Achberger, 40, and Troy Leiby, 40, were arrested Thursday on animal cruelty charges, and keeping exotic animals without a license.
They were released from jail Friday after posting 10 percent of a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
Four wallabies, a coatimundi, several flying squirrels and a monkey were removed from the home, located at 9761 Barker Road.
The coatimundi and monkey were taken by Black Pine Animal Sanctuary of Albion, Ind. The condition of the monkey is still in question, as zoo officials said the male primate was found dehydrated and full of mites. The flying squirrels were being taken by another animal rescue agency.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency condemned the home.
