Adele M. Gray, 94, of White Pigeon, died on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at a Kalamazoo hospital.
She was born Oct. 3, 1921, in South Bend, Ind., a daughter of Theron M. Saunders and Ethel (Bates) Saunders. She graduated from White Pigeon High School in 1939.
On March 8, 1941, she married Everett F. Gray in White Pigeon.
Adele lived in White Pigeon her entire life. She was named Citizen of the Year in 2014. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon, White Pigeon American Legion Auxiliary Post 138 and a life member of Amvets Auxiliary in Mesick.
Adele loved music and art. She played both piano and organ her entire life. She was also an accomplished artist who completed many beautiful oil paintings, which she lovingly gave to friends and family.
Adele and Everett co-founded Gray Brothers Stamping in 1948, with his brother Dale and Phyllis Gray.
Adele was proud to live in White Pigeon. She and her husband supported many things that the community enjoys today and will still enjoy in years to come. Heading that list is the Everett F. Gray Stadium and Track.
There was no one more dedicated to the White Pigeon community and schools than Adele. She attended many Chiefs sports activities. Adele was a “Red and Black Chief” through and through. She established the Adele M. Gray Fund to help meet charitable and educational needs of the White Pigeon community.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Donald Grant of White Pigeon; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dinah Gray of White Pigeon; three grandchildren, Ryan and Melissa Grant of White Pigeon, Sarah Gray of White Pigeon and Amy Munsinger of Minneapolis; her two great-grandsons were the love of her life and they kept her young, Cole and Carter Grant of White Pigeon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Charles and Leslie Saunders; and grandson Jeffrey Steven Grant.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at First Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon. Pastor Stephan Kaszar will officiate. Interment will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
