Rescued exotic animals receive treatment

The Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, where a pair of exotic animals removed last month from a Mottville Township residence is receiving medical treatment, has provided an update on the condition of the animals it took in.
A monkey is in quarantine. At the time of its removal, it weighed less than 10 pounds, was emaciated and dehydrated, and deprived of sunlight. Also, a collar was cut off the animal’s waist.
The coatimundi, a mammal native to South America, is receiving medication to treat sores on her skin, possibly for irritation from fleas or behavioral issues.
Jessica Achberger and Troy Leiby will be in court at 1 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
They face charges of abandoning and cruelty to animals. They were arrested Jan. 28 at their home in the 9000 block of Barker Road.
