Richard C. Leighton, age 85, of Mendon, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at his home. On November 1, 1930, he was born in Anderson, IN, a son of George and Selma (Jones) Leighton. Richard married Norma Nutt on August 23, 1958 in Elizabethtown, TN. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2005. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948 in Korea. He worked as a general supervisor of quality control at Fisher Body Div. General Motors in Kalamazoo. He retired in 1999 after working there for 42 years. Richard was a member of the Three Rivers American Legion.
Surviving Richard are his sons Stephen Curt (Sonya) Leighton of Mendon, Brent (Mary) Leighton of Three Rivers, David (Sharon) Leighton of Mendon, Robert (Connie) Leighton of Mendon; step sons Dannie (Jeanne) Hall of Mendon and Ronald (Glenda) Nutt of Marion, IL; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, sons Richard Michael Leighton and Kevin Leighton, and brothers Donald Leighton and George Leighton.
Relatives and friends will be received Sunday, February 14 from 2-5pm at Eley Funeral Home, Centreville. Religious services will take place Monday, February 15 at 11am at Moorepark Church, Three Rivers. Pastor Ken Miller will officiate. Interment will be at 3pm in Prairie River Cemetery.
