Robert W. Forsyth, age 83, of Constantine, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at his home. He was born June 11, 1932 in New Haven, IN a son of Alpha and LaVerne (Grosh) Forsyth. Bob graduated from New Haven High School in 1951 and served in the US Marines from 1951 to 1953. On January 18, 1975 he married Sharon Weagley Balyeat at the Constantine United Methodist Church. Bob was employed as a welder at E.L. Nickell Co. for 26 years and at Armstrong International for 14 years retiring in 1994. Bob graduated from the first EMT Class in Michigan and served over 40 years with Constantine Fire and Rescue. He was a member of the Constantine United Methodist Church, and formerly of the Constantine American Legion. For many years he and Sharon raised service dogs for Canine Companions for Independence.
Surviving are his daughter Terry (Steve) Krull, Constantine, step daughters Christina (Scott) Strawser, Belding, Lorelei Balyeat, Constantine, step son Tyler (Connie) Balyeat, Burr Oak, grandchildren Sara Marie (Doug) Sloan, Eric (Jodi) Forsyth, Rachel (Jody) Alger, Tim Krull, Traci Balyeat, Samantha Balyeat, Mitchell Strawser, great grandchildren Gaven Lewis, Isaac Forsyth, Abigail Forsyth, James Forsyth, Anna Marie Forsyth, Kaitlynn Sloan, Jillian Sloan, sister Evelyn Schimmoller, Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Phillip Forsyth, grandson Phillip Forsyth Jr. step grandson Matthew Strawser, brothers Charles and Frank and sisters June Doty and Phyllis Husband.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 4-7PM at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, and also on Saturday from 12-1PM at the Constantine United Methodist Church where Memorial services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Scott Manning officiating. Interment will be in the Constantine Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Constantine Fire Dept., or to the church.
