Dorothy May Nichols, age 102, of Colon, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Centreville.
Dorothy was born Nov. 5, 1913, in Colon, a daughter to the late Lou G. and Lucy Belle (Gregg) Dingman.
She had lived most all of her life in the Colon area, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1929.
On Nov. 6, 1933, she married Audley G. Nichols in Albion, Ind. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1997.
She had been a homemaker most of her life and also later had worked for Hass Corp. in Mendon and retired from the Colmer Company in Colon in 1979.
She is survived by three children; Nancy L. Nichols, Richard (Carol Ann) Nichols and Gerald L. (Marie) Nichols all of Colon; several grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Pierce of Brownsburg, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Rick Nichols; three brothers; Robert, William and Earl Dingman; three sisters; Betty Simpkins, Mona Westendorf and Leatha Decker.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, March 21, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy May Nichols will be Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Dorothy to the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
