Susan Shackleton, 51

Susan Marie Shackleton, 51, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016, at her childhood home, with her family at her side.
Susan grew up in Colon, then attained a bachelor’s degree in science at Mankato State in Minneapolis. She used her degree to work as a dental hygenist for many years in both Minnesota and Michigan.
She was born Feb. 4, 1965, a daughter of the late William and Mary Shackleton.
She is survived by a brother, William Shackleton III; four sisters, Pamela (Keith) Morlewski, Kathy Shackleton, Cindy (Eugene III) Harvey and Robin (James) Watter; four nephews, Cody, Matt, Geno and Brice; four nieces, Amanda, Rachel, Mary and Skyler; and her fiance, Robert Small.
Susan was a lifelong runner. Her favorite runs were those she ran with her family and friends. To this day, Susan still holds track records at Colon High School.
Susan spent long hours in prayer because of her strong faith in God and Jesus. The prayers, though, were not for her, but for her family and friends.
Her simple but great joy came from boating on Lake Michigan and time spent with family at the beach.
Susan’s true calling was that of “Aunt Extraordinaire.” Until the end of her days, nothing brought her greater joy than to spoil each and every niece and nephew.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Colon American Legion. Suggested attire is tropical shirts or running gear.
