Charlotte May Nicholas, age 69, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the home of her daughter Monica in Sturgis.
She was born May 1, 1946, in Battle Creek, Mich., daughter of the late Clyde F. and Edna Charlotte (Morse) Whipple.
Charlotte had resided in Sturgis for the past 38 years. She also lived in Union City and Nottawa and her early life was spent in Augusta.
On Dec. 11, 1987, she married Manard Buddy Nicholas in centreville. He died Sept. 8, 2001.
Charlotte retired from Kroger’s in Sturgis following 15 years of dedicated employment. She also worked as a licensed practical nurse for 15 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Monica (Ron Baker) Jarvis of Sturgis and Miki (Brian Patten) Slawinski of Manistee; one son, George Johnson of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Kristopher Slawinski, Vincent Smith, Alisha Smith and Aaron Smith; one great-grandchild, Kayden Smith and expecting her second in June; one sister, Ruth Whipple; three brothers, Clyde Whipple, Bill (Joy) Whipple and Freddie Whipple.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Georgie Whipple.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to remember and celebrate the life of Charlotte May Nicholas will be held from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331.
