A 16-year-old Edwardsburg girl was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in Cass County.
Sheriff Joe Underwood said deputies were called at 11:40 a.m. to the intersection of Pine Lake Street and Dailey Road in Jefferson Township.
Witnesses told investigators a pick-up driven by Jeffrey Jackson, 25, of Niles, disregarded a stop sign as Jackson was traveling east on Pine Lake Street.
Jackson’s truck struck a northbound vehicle driven by Makayla McKenzie.
McKenzie’s vehicle left the roadway, overturned and came to rest on its top. As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Passengers in her vehicle, Camryn Raab, 16, and Hannah Philpot, 17, both of Edwardsburg, were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Jackson was also taken to South Bend Memorial.
Alcohol and seatbelt use are unknown at this time, according to Underwood.
