Court upholds Brown’s murder conviction

The Michigan Court of Appeals upheld the murder conviction of Andy Brown in the 2013 shooting death of Sturgis CPA David Locey.
The court released a 16-page opinion Wednesday, denying Brown a new trial.
Brown is serving a maximum of 75 years in prison for second-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was convicted by a jury in 2014.
The shooting occurred in October 2013. Locey, who had employed Brown, found evidence of embezzlement by Brown from a Sturgis client.
Testimony showed Locey told Brown he had not yet decided whether to fire Brown, but was leaning toward doing so.
Brown’s attorneys argued that expert witness testimony about gunshot residue found on the clothing should not have been allowed, because it was not reliable.
An appeal to the Supreme Court is expected.
Brown, meanwhile, is imprisoned in Ionia.
