Commissioners recognize animal control secretary

A Mendon-area woman was recognized Tuesday for her devotion to the county’s animal shelter.
Lauralee Knepper, 72, was unaware her contributions to the shelter would be the focus of a resolution passed by the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.
Not until after a lengthy introduction did Knepper realize the resolution was in her honor.
A misty-eyed Knepper listened as commissioner Rick Shaffer read the resolution that mentioned her work the past four years at the Centreville-based shelter, the care and comfort she provides the animals, the money she spends out of her own pocket for toys and food, and the enhanced adoption program now in place thanks to her devotion.
Knepper is secretary of the animal control advisory board.
