Organizers of Saturday’s Three Rivers Area Mentoring “Reeling in the Future” event at Corey Lake in Fabius Township said it was the best-attended in its 10-year history.
Thirty-four kids were able to partner with a volunteer captain and spend the morning fishing. TRAM executive director Bobbi Schoon said for a number of the participants, the event was the first time they had ever fished from a boat.
TRAM, which works with area kids who benefit from the time afforded by volunteers with a mentor-focused group, also stages an annual bowling event as well as smaller, after-school activities during the academic year.
By virtue of catching the largest fish Saturday, Rylee Sweet and D’ryrs Williams will have the opportunity this fall to fish on Lake Erie with TRAM volunteers.
