Jeannette M. Fenner, age 63, of Sturgis, passed away late Saturday evening, July 2, 2016, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Oct. 28, 1952, in Ludington, a daughter of the late Robert and Janet (Vorac) Daugherty. She was a 1970 Ludington High School graduate with honors.
Jeannette had resided in Sturgis since 1984, coming from Reed City.
She retired from the city of Sturgis following 32 years of dedicated service, with her last position as director of wastewater and IT.
Jeannette was a member of Cedar Lake Golf Course in Howe, Ind., Kalamazoo Women’s Golf Association, Michigan Golf Association and Morgan and Quarter Horse Associations. She enjoyed horses and was involved in competing with her horses as a young girl and later the breeding of horses. Jeannette had a true love of the outdoors. She was an accomplished hunter and for many years held the record buck harvested in Mason County by a woman with her 8-point. She also enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. Her passion for excellence continued with many years winning in bowling tournaments, pool leagues and her final dedication and love of golf. She was always looking for an opportunity to be out on a golf course. Her passion led her to win numerous awards over the years in golf tournaments, including the 2004 Dupont World Amateur Championship.
She is survived by a daughter, Tanya (Shawn) Walter of Ludington; two granddaughters, Alyssa Walter and Emilie Walter, both of Ludington; a sister, Christy Daugherty Rogers of Grand Rapids, who very much adored and respected her; a brother, Rodney Daugherty of Ludington; a stepsister, Rebecca (Tom) Schmock of Ludington, and stepmother, Lucy Daugherty of Ludington; and several extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Daugherty; and mother and stepfather, Janet and Lee Swearingen.
In accordance with Jeannette’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held 12:30-2:30 p.m. July 30, 2016, at Cedar Lake Golf course in Howe, Ind., with lunch served from 1-2 p.m. and golf scramble at 8:30 a.m.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Jeannette’s memory to the Jeannette Fenner Science Scholarship Fund.
