David Gay “Butch” Hutchison, age 66, of Sturgis, passed away early Sunday evening, July 24, 2016, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Ravenna, Ohio, a son of the late Guy Jackson and Zella Mae (Ringley) Hutchison.
Butch resided most of his life in Sturgis.
He was employed by Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 30 years until the company closed. He also was a talented carpenter and had built one of his homes.
Butch enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. Some of his favorite activities included hunting, playing golf, fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing and he was an avid fan of Formula One racing. Many will miss his gift of cooking and the joy he found in feeding others. Butch had a true love for his two dogs, Cutter and Riley.
He is survived by his fiancée of 38 years, Mary Lou Willis of Sturgis; a brother:, Lucky Hutchison of Bronson; a stepdaughter, Leslie (Garett Smith) Willis of Novi; two nieces, Jenna (Derek) Mathieu of Kalamazoo and April Ware of Sturgis; two nephews, Kyle (Mandy) Hutchison of Anchorage, Alaska and Evan (Courtney) Hutchison; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pat Surrette and Diane Hutchison.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to honor and celebrate the life of David “Butch” Hutchison will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at American Legion Post #73, 500 W. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
