Seven of St. Joseph County’s 16 townships had contested races settled in Tuesday’s primary election.
In Burr Oak Township, Richard Baker and Michael Perry claimed the two available trustee seats. Timothy Hahn was the odd man out.
Fabius Township settled two contests: Melissa Patch came up 10 votes short against Carol Wilkins for clerk, while Cliff Maxwell and Daniel Wilkins emerged from a field of three candidates to win two trustee seats.
Lockport Township also has two contested races and Mark Major defeated Rick Shaffer for the supervisor’s post, 269 votes to 216. Meanwhile, a field of three Republicans for trustee was narrowed to two with Paul Bungart and Theresa Ghenra-Ankney besting Kelli Timm Atkinson.
Brenda Hagen defeated Mark Ripplinger for the supervisor’s job in Mottville Township. Hagen had 77 votes while Ripplinger had 38.
In Nottawa Township, Dave Peterson received three-quarters of the vote over Kurt Loudenslager for supervisor, while Tammy Rigby defeated Ramona Metzger and Marie Ross for the treasurer’s spot.
Bill Brislen came up short against Michael Kinne and Tom Springer for the two trustee seats in Park Township.
And Sherman Township residents overwhelmingly selected Steve Wolf over Allen Kasdorf for supervisor.
