Oswald defeats Marsh in primary

The closest political contest of the night in Tuesday’s primary election centered on the race for county clerk/register of deeds.
Lindsay Oswald emerged the winner by just 303 votes to claim the four-year term over Fabius Township resident Melissa Marsh.
Oswald, who lives in Lockport Township, received 2,807 votes to Marsh’s 2,504 for a 53 percent margin of victory to Marsh’s 47 percent.
The 36-year-old Oswald has served the post since July 1 last year after being appointed to replace Pattie Bender, who retired with 18 months to the conclusion of her term.
Meanwhile, first-term incumbent Judie Ratering will return for four more years after defeating Sturgis resident Gwen Donmyer by nearly a two-to-one margin for the office of county treasurer.
Ratering, of Park Township, received 3,330 votes to Donmyer’s 1,737.
