Organizers behind a local benefit to aid a wounded solider and his family are hoping for a bit more generosity from the public.
Peggy and Jim Fassett last weekend staged for the seventh consecutive year a fundraiser to aid the organization “Homes for our Troops.” Specifically, the $9,600 raised Saturday will be earmarked to assist Wisconsin resident Russell Dennison, his wife and two kids.
Peggy Fassett said she is optimistic that a few more mailed-in donations and any dropped off at their Park Township residence will push the total past the $10,000 mark.
More than 300 people attended the six-hour event, which featured a pig roast, other food, games and plenty of camaraderie.
Dennison was injured as the result of an improvised-explosive device in the Middle East.
The Fassetts live at 54010 Parkville Road, Mendon.
More information about “Homes for our Troops” and Dennison specifically can be found online at: hfotusa.org/dennison.
