Douglas Alton Adams, 77, of New Carlisle, Ind., passed away at 2:40 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 in Hospice House.
Douglas was born on Jan. 8, 1939, in Three Rivers, to Harold Leroy and Ila Mae (Decker) Adams.
He grew up in Colon, and graduated from Colon High School in 1957. He was a 1962 graduate of Michigan State University and received his master’s degree from Central Michigan in 1970.
Douglas had been employed as a loan officer with National Bank of South Bend (New Carlisle Branch) and Teacher’s Credit Union (Walkerton Branch).
On July 28, 1962 in Sturgis, Mich., he married Margaret “Peg” Machan, who survives. Also surviving are his two children, Elizabeth “Beth” (Rick) Gorney of South Bend, Ind., and Timothy (Melissa) Adams of DeMotte, Ind.; two grandchildren Micah and Caden Adams; two sisters, Margaret (Charles) Mangold and Kathleen Adams, both of Colon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. EST., Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, in the New Carlisle United Methodist Church. A visitation will take place from 2-8 p.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Ind., and for one hour prior to the services in the church on Tuesday.
Douglas had served in the United States Army Reserves from 1957 – 1963. He was a member of the New Carlisle United Methodist Church. Douglas had been a 40 year member of the New Carlisle Lions Club where he had served as president many times and had also held other offices. He was a member of the Alex Coquillard Chapter Sons of the American Revolution and the South Bend Area Genealogical Society. He had been active in organizing “Hometown Days” in New Carlisle.
