Boil water notice lifted – again

A boil-water notice for Lockport Township – the second in a one-week period – was lifted effective Wednesday afternoon.

The notice was issued by Jennifer Ransbottom, director of utility management services for Jones Petrie Rafinski.

She said Lockport Township Water System, in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, determined it is no longer necessary to use bottled water or to boil water before drinking or cooking.

The boil-water order had been in place since Sunday afternoon, after the township’s water system lost pressure due to an equipment malfunction. As a result, neither of two wells activated to fill the tower and the water supply inside the tower was exhausted.

Ransbottom said appropriate corrective measures were taken over the three-day, boil-water period and follow-up sampling confirmed no coliform bacteria are present in the township water supply.
