Former teacher will stand trial

A former Centreville Public Schools teacher will stand trial after withdrawing a plea agreement last week.
Terry Miller faces trial on more than 100 counts of criminal sexual conduct charges. No trial date has been set.
Miller earlier this summer pleaded no-contest to one count of attempted fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
As part of the agreement, Miller received no jail time, but was put on probation and required to report as a sex offender for 25 years.
At a sentencing hearing Friday in St. Joseph County Circuit Court, Judge Paul Stutesman said that, after reviewing the pre-sentence report, he was unsatisfied with not sentencing Miller to jail time. Stutesman also said the alleged victims had not agreed to the plea arrangement.
During the hearing, Stutesman offered Miller the chance to withdraw his plea, and Miller accepted it.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said he is ready to proceed with a trial and there will be no more plea offers.
The case stems from Miller’s time as a junior-high math teacher.
