Boil water notice for White Pigeon

The village of White Pigeon has issued a boil-water notice due to coliform bacteria detected in the municipality’s water system.
Village officials said the advisory went into effect around 4 p.m. Wednesday after four of eight samples being tested as a routine procedure yielded the positive result.
Coliform is typically an indication that there could be a problem with the treatment or distribution system. The presence of coliform warrants follow-up testing to see if any other bacteria of greater concern – including E. coli – are present.
The system is being flushed, however, before new samples are taken.
Residents are advised to use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food. Boiled water should boil for at least one minute before being allowed to cool and used.
