David Edward Horstman, age 57, of Sturgis, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 2016, at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born Nov. 4, 1958, in Austin, Texas, son of the late John and Anna (Burke) Horstman, Sr.
For the past four years, David had been employed by Medilodge of Portage. He also had been employed by the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for several years, Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis and Fairview Living Centre in Centreville and was a self-employed painter. He was involved in the Kids Count Day Care Center, Sturgis Neighborhood Program and served as Youth Pastor and oversaw the Children’s Church Ministry at the Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis.
David was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one daughter, Emilee B. (Jason) McCormack of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Nathan Horstman of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandson, Judah McCormack; his companion of 11 years, Vickie Smith of Sturgis; and several brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to share memories, honor and celebrate the life of David E. Horstman will be held from 3-5 p.m. today, Monday at the Thurston Woods Park, 310 N. Franks Ave. in Sturgis.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorial donations would be appreciated to the funeral home to help with expenses.
