Alice M. “Sally” Denney, age 83, of Athens, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at her home, after several weeks of failing health.
Sally was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Leonidas; a daughter of the late Milo and Eva (Groth) Iobe.
Sally grew up in the Leonidas area and graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1951.
On Sept. 1, 1951, she married William V. “Bill” Denney in Mendon. He preceded her in death Aug. 1, 2003.
Sally was a homemaker and had worked along with her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of Factoryville Bible Church, Wingles and Senior Saints. She also loved working with her flowers.
She is survived by three sons, Richard (Dianne K.) Denney of Colon, Randy (Kathy) Denney of Tombstone, Ariz., and Ronald (Diane M.) Denney of Athens; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Iobe of Leonidas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gaylord Iobe; and two sisters, Velma Burson and infant sister Jean Iobe.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Factoryville Bible Church in Factoryville. Funeral services celebrating the life of Sally Denney will then take place at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Fred A. Goebert officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will then take place at 2:30 p.m. at Beard Cemetery in Leonidas Township.
If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Sally to either Factoryville Bible Church or Hospice of Southwest Michigan in Kalamazoo. Envelopes are available at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon or at the Church.
