The St. Joseph County United Way has started focusing on food donations for Thanksgiving baskets, and it is hoping local companies will consider staging food drives to help with the 2016 holiday.
Last year, 150 local families received Thanksgiving food baskets thanks to donations from local companies and individuals, United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler said.
For the past few years, Department of Human Services have requested that the St. Joseph County United Way help at Thanksgiving instead of Christmas to better balance the amount of food distributed during the two holidays.
Local individuals and corporations interested in helping by providing food or cash contributions can contact the United Way office in Centreville at 467- 9099.
United Way officials will also pick up donated food.
