The 60th Mendon Kiwanis Showboat is underway, and organizers, including Dale Eickhoff, took a unique approach to establish the Showboat’s 2016 theme.
Eickhoff said Showboat officials have gone back and picked out songs and jokes used in the previous 59 shows. This year’s Showboat theme, he said, is “Still Crazy After All These Years.”
The oldest song dates to 1958, when Phyllis Marantette performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
The 2016 Showboat has a 43-member cast and an intermission will separate the two, hour-long acts. The performance takes place starting at 7:30 p.m. nightly through Saturday in the Mendon Elementary School gymnasium.
Eickhoff said a number of cast members who haven’t been a part of the Showboat in a number of years have returned, lured in part by the nostalgia of the milestone performance.
Tickets are $10, whether purchased in advance or at the door. Eickhoff said proceeds, as always, benefit the 17-member Mendon Kiwanis.
