Improved building ventilation, replacing domestic water piping and new interior doors appear to be the more-popular areas targeted by participants Wednesday during a community forum at White Pigeon High School.
The district is planning to ask voters in May to renew a 3-mill sinking fund that originated in 2007 and was renewed in 2012. Wednesday’s forum was the second of three; the final gathering is Dec. 6.
Superintendent Jon Keyer said even though the district has seen 10 years of improvements through the sinking fund, its list of needs remains lengthy.
The two dozen people in attendance Wednesday broke into four groups. Each group reviewed a 44-item list of needs at White Pigeon High School and another list spelling out about 40 needs at Central Elementary.
Keyer said details centering on the renewal request should be fine-tuned during the Dec. 6 meeting and ready for the board of education’s review in January.
If approved, the sinking fund will generate between $4.5 and $5 million in total over its five-year life.
