I&M continues infrastructure upgrade

Indiana Michigan Power has provided an update regarding an infrastructure upgrade that includes a large portion of Cass County as well as an area and substation in Fabius Township.
The Cass County Area Improvement project will enhance the electric-transmission system in Cass and St. Joseph counties, according to company officials. The 26-mile route extends from the Corey Substation, at M-60 and Cochran Road in Fabius Township, west into Cass County.
The approximately $75 million investment is critical due to an aging system and to accommodate for the region’s future growth, according to company spokesperson Tracy Warner.
I&M will also replace aging wood poles with new steel monopole structures ranging between 90 and 110 feet in height. The structures will be placed in the center of a 100-foot wide right-of-way corridor.
Work started earlier this year and will be completed in the spring, company officials said.
