Sturgis home destroyed by fire

A two-story residence in Sturgis was destroyed by fire Thursday.
Sturgis Fire Captain Cody Cripe said crews were called shortly before 6 a.m. to an address on Lakeview Avenue.
The first-arriving unit reported a structure with heavy fire showing from the rear of the house. The fire was extending from the basement to the second floor, both interior and exterior.
Investigators said the home was not occupied and possibly vacant. Multiple hose lines were deployed to extinguish the fire.
The Sturgis Fire Departments ladder truck was placed into use to extinguish the fire in the attic of the house. Due to the construction of the house and the extent of fire upon arrival the home received significant damage and is considered to be a total loss.
Authorities will be returning to the scene later in the week to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters cleared the scene around 10:45 a.m.
