A self-service book station at Wade Park will serve as the legacy of a longtime patron of the White Pigeon Township Library.
The late Marge Randall is memorialized by the Little Free Library, a stand filled with about 20 books available for the taking.
Perri Saunders, executive director of the White Pigeon Township Library, said she was long familiar with the concept of Little Free Library. The idea of taking one on in White Pigeon, however, was inspired by Randall.
The concept stems from rules the library has in place, primarily a stipulation that a township resident must show a current address on a driver’s license in order to secure a library card.
She said the rule makes it difficult for some people, especially the transient population.
For now, Saunders is in charge of re-stocking the shelf. She said she’s happy to perform the task but would welcome relief if a patron or someone local is willing to take over the task.
