Judith “Judi” Elaine Happel, age 74, a lifelong Sturgis, resident passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich.
She was born June 27, 1942 in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1961.
On Jan. 20, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, she married Lee G. Happel.
Judith was employed at Kirsch Company, C.O.A. Burr Oak Branch as meal site manager, and by the United States Postal Service where she was a rural mail carrier for over 20 years, retiring in 2008.
She enjoyed crocheting, shopping, and had a great love and enjoyment for spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Lee of Sturgis; children, Michael L. Happel, Mark (Bianca) Happel, Susan E. Happel, and Martin (Sally) Happel all of Sturgis; grandchildren, Jenna, Kaitlin, Matthew, Lee, Olivia, Grant, Myra, and Benson; great-granddaughter, Madison; and beloved pet cocker spaniel, Chloe.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mikolatcher Abbs; aunt, Thelma Smoker; and uncle, Lloyd Mikolatcher.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
Services celebrating the life of Judith “Judi” E. Happel will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Cary, officiating.
Interment will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the 4-H Youth Livestock Program. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
