Investigation continues in Cass County crash

The Cass County sheriff’s department is investigating a crash that occurred late Sunday night on Rudy Road. Deputies said the driver of the vehicle, Lucas Black, 34, of Dowagiac, was southbound on Ruby when a vehicle driving northbound began to pass another vehicle.
Black told police he swerved to miss the oncoming vehicle and lost control, rolling it several times. Black was later transported to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac by PrideCare Ambulance.
The airbags did not deploy, authorities said, but seatbelts were used. Drugs and alcohol are suspected to be involved in the incident.
The crash is still under investigation. Assisting on scene were Wayne Township Fire, Dowagiac and Pokagon Tribal police.
