Two roads and four bridges will receive attention this summer, as the St. Joseph County Road Commission has announced its 2017 road and bridge projects.
Road commission manager Chris Minger said the work will take place on Nottawa Road in Mendon and Nottawa townships, and White School Road in Sturgis Township.
The Nottawa Road work will feature a crush-and-shape process from Main Street in Mendon south to Butler Road in Nottawa Township. The stretch covers 2.44 miles.
White School Road will undergo the same process from U.S. 12 north to Progress Street. Minger said the work is over about half a mile and include the county-owned portion of Progress Street.
Meanwhile, the bridge work will feature deck repairs on the 45-year-old Schweitzer Road bridge over the St. Joseph River in Lockport Township, and on the Nottawa Road bridge over the St. Joseph River in the village of Mendon.
Replacement projects are in store for the Decker Road bridge over Little Swan Creek in Colon Township and Miller Road over Fawn River in Fawn River Township.
Collectively, the projects are expected to cost more than $2.8 million, with work to begin in May.
