Nearly two dozen community leaders from St. Joseph County took part last week in the 15th annual “March for Meals Community Champions Week.”
The five-day campaign concluded Friday.
This national promotion is an annual event led by Meals on Wheels America designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger and isolation.
More than 400 seniors in St Joseph County are served by the Meals on Wheels program, which is run by the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging.
Community leaders who participated in meal delivery last week were COA Advisory Board Members Chuck Thompson, Steve Boland, Jim MacTavish and Al Heivilin; a representative from Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s office; State Rep. Aaron Miller; Three Rivers Police Chief Tom Bringman; Three Rivers Fire Chief Carl Holcomb; Sturgis Mayor Robert Hile; St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald; Colon Village President Diane Downs; and St. Joseph County Commissioner Dennis Allen.
