Helen J. Avery, age 90, of Colon, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Helen was born Oct.11, 1926, in Sherman Township, a daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Taylor) Sadewasser.
She grew up in Sturgis, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1943.
On Aug. 2, 1947, she married Donald E. Avery of Centreville. He preceded her in death March 12, 2008.
She called Colon her home for more than 60 years. There, she had worked as a teller for the former Citizens State Bank and later for Vanguard Industries, retiring in 1992. She attended Colon United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Terry Millard of Taylors, S.C; three grandchildren, Brandi Millard and Becki (Dallas) Hynicka both of Taylors, and Ashleigh (Jon) Sutter of Greenville, S.C.;and four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Madelyn Hynicka and Megan and Abigail Sutter.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial Service and burial will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville, with the Rev. David J. Farrell officiating.
