Teresa Belote was chosen Wednesday by the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District board as its next superintendent.
Belote, who has a long history with Sturgis Public Schools and is currently superintendent of Bronson Community Schools, was selected over Pat Kreger, superintendent of Union City Community Schools.
ISD board members noted they were fortunate to have two solid finalists for the post.
Belote said her immediate priority is to provide a smooth transition for both the ISD and Bronson Community Schools.
Current ISD superintendent Barbara Marshall said her retirement is effective June 1.
In 2016, Marshall received a total compensation package in excess of $225,000. Contract negotiations for Belote’s salary are pending.
