Mary Decker, 91

Mary Ardis Decker, age 91, of Colon, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Colon, a daughter of the late Carleton L. and Georgia A. (Drake) West.
On Nov. 22, 1947, she married Allen Eugene Decker in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Oct. 26, 1980.
Mary had been employed by several area businesses, including Abbott Magic Company and Colmer Company, both of Colon.
She had served as a den mother for Cub Scouts, was a member of the Colon booster club, Colon Historical Society and Colon American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary, actively helped at the Colon food pantry and had made stocking caps and Christmas stockings for area children.
She is survived by three daughters, Leah Decker and Terri Decker, both of Colon, and Barbara Esseltine of Sturgis; two sons, Allen E. Decker II of Colon and Phillip “Buzz” Decker of Gobles; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Roland West of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Donald, Robert and Richard West; and a sister, Marjorie Schrock.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary A. Decker will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Rev. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow in South Colon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Great Lakes Caring Hospice or the Colon food pantry. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
