St Joseph County unemployment remains below average

March’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County was seven-tenths of a percent lower than one month previous.
The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed the county’s 3.5 percent March unemployment rate marked a decrease from February’s 4.2 percent.
St. Joseph County remained below the state unemployment average, which was 4.8 percent in March.
The agency said fewer job-seekers, and seasonal job gains in construction, leisure and hospitality contributed to the March job-market figures.
St. Joseph and Kalamazoo counties featured the lowest unemployment rate in the region in March.
Meanwhile, Berrien County was the region’s highest, at 4.6 percent.
Cass County’s unemployment rate for the month was 4.4 percent, a 1-percent decrease from February.
