A single-family residence in Sturgis sustained water and smoke damage due to a fire over the weekend.
The Sturgis Fire Department was called at 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the 500 block of Market Street, where crews found all residents outside and smoke coming from the eaves of a one-story residential home.
Once inside, personnel found fire coming out of the wall in the living room as well as extending into the attic. Ceilings were pulled and the multiple roofs were cut to gain access to the attic space.
Deputy Fire Chief Andy Strudwick said at that point, the fire was quickly knocked down.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the living room and attic. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
