Three Rivers Department of Public Services Director Amy Roth said the city’s 139-foot water tower, located on Broadway, will be out of service for the balance of the month while it undergoes exterior painting.
The project is slated to conclude May 26. Fedewa, a firm located in Hastings, was awarded the $122,000 contract. Engineering costs totaled $13,000. The tower, which was constructed in 1964, is repainted, on an average, every 15 years.
While the tower is out of service, Roth said the system will run on pressure with wells. Consequently, some city residents may notice their water appearing rusty and pressure may be variable.
The variable pressure is expected to occur while the tower is out of service and, Roth stressed, is a temporary situation.
If a system pressure loss is experienced during the project, the department will issue a boil-water notice. Under those circumstances, notice will be promoted through local media, including the city’s website and its Facebook page.
